Back near the end of April I received a couple of Vegas de Santiago Don Luis “Secretos del Maestro” cigars from a reader for me to review. Since then I’ve gotten some more cigars from Rudy and Lani at Vegas de Santiago and have finally gotten around to sparking a few up. The first one was the 4″ x 60 “shorty”, which follows the current trend of short fat cigars. The example I smoked was terrific. It had really rich flavors that I enjoyed and it burned really well. As with most cigars in this format that I like, I felt like I wished it was longer.
Here’s some information from the manufacturer:
We have created this cigar in memory of our late Cuban master Don Luis Lamas who was one of the 10 best in the world.
We have chosen the finest tobaccos available in Nicaragua and Costa Rica for the filler plus a special leaf for a more sofisticated taste with an Indonesian binder and a Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador.
Vegas de Santiago makes some darned fine cigars. As with just about any line, there are some I enjoy quite a bit and others that don’t really do it for me. The prices are very reasonable, $3.00 for the shortie and as little as $3.60 for the torpedo, it’s hard to imagine finding as good a cigar for the price.
Contest time! I’ll put together a Vegas de Santiago sampler for the winner. Leave a comment and we’ll put the cats to work again, hopefully it won’t take a whole day again to get one of them to cooperate. I tell you, dealing with “talent” is hard work….it’s like herding cats….literally! Contest ends at the end of business Saturday July 3.
I am anticipating digging into a couple more from the line later today for my regular Sunday post so stay tuned.
Until the next time,
CigarCraig
It would be interesting to try one of these Vegas de Santiago Don Luis “Secretos del Maestro” cigars as I can’t say I’ve ever seen them around my local B & M’s. Thanks for running the contest and “Here Kitty-Kitty-Kitty.”
I glad you got to the VdS line. The new double ligero is outstanding. Another great contest Craig. Hit me again Kitty and there’s some extra Catnip in it for you!
I’ve never had a cigar from this maker. Sure would be nice to win a sampler, nevertheless!
Gee, I never…
Seriously, I’ve never had one of those before. They look tasty, though I’m already a bit skeptical of the trendy Nub-like size.
Great review…great contest. I’ve truthfully never heard of these before, but they sound like something I’d like to try….especially considering the price point. Nice! I haven’t had too many cigars at the 4×60 size. Only other is the 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle and some of the Nub’s.
Thanks. Have a great weekend!

I have enjoyed several of the Vegas de Santiago line. It’s a decent cigar and I’m glad a few of my local shops have decided to carry the brand.
WHAT?! *NOW* yer tawkin!
