News: Cubariqueño Cigar Co. Releasing Protocol Sir Robert Peel at IPCPR Show

I definitely received way to many press releases today!  Here’s another one. This is a new cigar from the guys at Cubariqueño Cigar Co. The artwork strays from the “P” that they’ve used on the other Protocol lines.  It’s pretty spiffy.

Cubariqueño Cigar Co. announces the release of the Protocol Sir Robert Peel as a regular production release for the 2019 IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas. The Cigars will be offered in a natural & maduro format. The Protocol Sir Robert Peel is produced at Erik Espinosa’s La Zona Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The cigars will be available in a 6 x 52 box press format in boxes of 10. MSRP has been set at $119.50 per box. The blend incorporates an Ecuadorian Rosado wrapper covering Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The second blend utilizes the same filler but a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper. The cigar will become available nationally at the 2019 IPCPR located in Las Vegas.

Sir Robert Peel is regarded as the father of modern day policing. Cubariqueño Cigar Co.  again pays homage to the profession of its owners Bill Ives & Juan Cancel who are police officers. We left no stone unturned for this release.

“Both cigars are smoking phenomenal and we took the packing up to the next level” stated Juan Cancel. Cubariqueño Cigar Co. will again be partnered inside the Espinosa booth at the 2019 IPCPR Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

News: Black Label Trading Company to Debut New Artwork and Packaging

Not a slow news day today. Here’s some from Black Label Trading Co.  These guys are going to be the big talk of the show this year I think.

Black Label Trading Company (BLTC) will be debuting new artwork and packaging for its core-line at this year’s IPCPR in Las Vegas.

Royalty, Salvation, Lawless and Last Rites have each been given unique artwork designed by James Brown, creator of BLTC. These cigars are part of the original core-line that BLTC launched in 2013. Benediction was also part of the original core-line but will be replaced with Porcelain to complete the spectrum of BLTC’s five core-line cigars. New Packaging will begin shipping after IPCPR.

“I’m very excited for the re-boot of the BLTC Core Line. Black Label is celebrating its six year anniversary and it was time to change things up a bit. I believe every cigar has it’s own personality and tells a story. I wanted to give our core products the chance to tell that story through unique artwork for each line. It was also time to tweak the blends a bit. The blends didn’t change, I just played with different proportions of the original tobaccos creating a new, unique version of the cigars,” said James Brown, creator of BLTC and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra.

“Black Label Trading Company is redefining the standards for cigar making. With a less is more philosophy, Black Label Trading Co. creates hand crafted premium cigars of t

he utmost quality at their own factory in Nicaragua.”

News: Joya de Nicaragua Antaño CT to Ship in July

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one.  I love the Antaño, it’s among my favorite cigars in either the 1970 or Dark Corojo. I’m also a fan of the Cabinetta. I certainly don’t mind a Connecticut shade cigar, and I will give it a try when it hits stores (not going to the show so I won’t get samples!), but it seems to me it’s a little like a Conny shade Liga 9…hmmm, I have one of those in a humidor someplace, maybe I should give it a try!  Whatever, it’s a Joya, I’m sure it’ll be good!
Joya de Nicaragua invites you to keep daring and experience an intense CT smoke

Joya de Nicaragua invites you to keep daring and experience an intense CT smoke

Antaño CT: a cigar for defiant souls

With its silky-smooth Connecticut shade wrapper, it may seem tamer than its bolder Antaño brethren. Don’t be fooled. Antaño CT is a masterful and paradoxical blend of what a cigar with attitude can be. A cigar that defies expectations; a smoke for those with defying souls.  Antaño in Spanish means ‘Yesteryear’, a word that perfectly expresses the soul of the Joya de Nicaragua Antaños. The first blend of this family was released almost 20 years ago as a tribute to the power and the essence of the “The True Nicaraguan Puro” that made Joya de Nicaragua the most sought-after cigar in the United States in the 1970s, during the post-Cuban embargo.

“Today, Antaño is not just one cigar blend, it is a family of products that invite smokers to Keep Daring, to try powerful and intense blends with distinctive Nicaraguan character. That is why we invite cigar lovers to dare to try the Antaño interpretation of what a Connecticut wrapped cigar should be” said Juan Ignacio Martínez, Executive President at Joya de Nicaragua.Antaño CT, with its Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, and Nicaraguan fillers and binder, delivers a medium to full body and strength, with dynamic creaminess and intense spicy notes. Intentionally pungent to showcase the contrasts between the expected subtleties of the CT shade, and the rich and potent flavors of Nicaraguan tobacco.

“This smoke is definitely an intense experience, the intriguing result of master blenders on a paradoxical quest: the creation of a flavor bomb like the rest of the Antaños but with this wrapper. It became a real challenge for us at the factory, torcedores and blenders, we all wanted to defy an industry mantra, we knew we could make a truly interesting CT cigar” expressed Mario Pérez, Joya de Nicaragua’s Factory Manager.

The Antaño CT line will come in 20 count boxes, in 4 different sizes: 6×54 Belicoso (MSRP $ 9.90), 6×50 Toro (MSRP $9.70), 5×52 Robusto (MSRP $8.45), and 5¼x46 Corona Gorda (MSRP $8.00). Shipments to stores nationwide will start in July 2019, after being showcased at the 87thIPCPR Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

News: Altadis Celebrates H. Upmann’s 175th Anniversary With Limited Edition Cigar

I think I was just saying a few posts ago how much I liked the A.J. Fernandez H. Hupmann cigar, now Altadis is partnering with A.J. Fernandez again for the 175th Anniversary cigar. I’m looking forward to this one!

CELEBRATING AN ICONIC BRAND: UPMANN 175thANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION

A.J. Fernandez uses the rare medio tiempo wrapper  for limited edition H. Upmann 175th Anniversary

Altadis U.S.A. is celebrating a special milestone as the H. Upmann cigar brand turns 175 years old. The limited-edition H. Upmann 175th Anniversary will commemorate one of the oldest and most renowned cigars brands. This limited edition will only be expressed in the iconic Churchill size, in 10 count boxes that will number to 14,750. Fifty special-edition humidors containing 50 cigars will also be offered. The story of H. Upmann cigars is one of adventure, family, and passion for tobacco.

It all began in 1843, when German banker Herman Upmann took a leap of faith and moved to Havana, Cuba, to open a branch for his family bank. He created a small batch of cigars for his best clients, but quickly became impassioned with tobacco. A passion that led him to found his own cigar brand in 1844, joined by his younger brother August. The brothers purchased a small cigar factory and diligently learned to combine tobacco artistry and German ingenuity. 175 years later, H. Upmann is still known the world over.

For this special project, H. Upmann tapped A.J. Fernandez who brought forward the extremely elusive “Medio Tiempo” wrapper – grown on 1 out of every 12 tobacco plants above the ligero leaves -, to add complexity and flavor as the final dressing of this Nicaraguan puro.  A.J. and his team carefully harvested this special leaf and utilized very intricate fermentation processes for over 3 years which, while extremely time consuming, bring out the very best in the medio tiempo leaf.

The H. Upmann 175th Anniversary boasts unparalleled flavors for a unique sophisticated smoking experience. This medium to full body cigar starts with elements of coffee and some earthiness. As the cigar develops, the flavors intensify with caramel and salt notes together with roasted espresso bean overtones. The spectacular clean finish delivers a creamy and uncommonly velvet smoke with a rich and resonant balance of spices, dark chocolate and nuts.

From Rafael Nodal, Head of Product Capability for Tabacalera USA: “One of the things that I love about creating new blends, is the constant learning about tobacco. Working with AJ Fernández and the rarest wrapper in the world, Medio Tiempo, has definitely been a unique and rewarding experience. There are great cigars and then there is the H. Upmann 175th Anniversary blend. An unforgettable cigar.”.

Candela Diaz, Brand Manager for H. Upmann: “H. Upmann is one of the most storied cigar brands. It was impossible to pass up an opportunity to commemorate this brand that embodies brotherhood and love of tobacco. We look forward to unveiling the H. Upmann 175 at the 2019 IPCPR in Las Vegas.”

The H. Upmann 175thAnniversary will ship to retailers in July 2019.

Vitola: Churchill 50 x 7

MSRP: $18.00 per cigar

MSRP for the 50 count H. Upmann Special Edition Humidor: $1,250.
