News: Partagas Añejo Returns

This is a really good cigar priced far less than it should be!  Don’t tell that to the General Cigar people though. Read all about it:

Partagas will soon ship this year’s second allotment of “Añejo,” a refined cigar named for the profoundly-aged wrapper tobaccos that define its appearance and attributes.

Shipping to retailers on October 3, Partagas Añejo is being re-released in the two original sizes that launched earlier this year. Both frontmarks are 4.5” in length as commanded by the scarcity and fragility of the cigar’s Cameroon wrapper leaves.

John Hakim, brand manager of Partagas said, “Partagas Añejo is a small-batch offering that we are releasing twice a year. This special blend provides the opportunity for cigar lovers to experience the mystique of a Cameroon wrapper in the context of masterful blending. The initial release earlier this year was met with a tremendous response, and we anticipate that the second allotment will sell out quickly.”

The limited-edition Partagas Añejo is predominantly adorned with a rare 1998 Cameroon which is intertwined with 2013 Connecticut Shade in a barber-pole format. The aged wrapper tobaccos establish a foundation of exceptional depth. When blended with the Mexican and Dominican filler and Dominican Vega Especial binder, the complexity deepens to deliver an intricately layered smoking experience.

Partagas Añejo starts off mellow and unfolds to medium-body as the smoke progresses. Notes of wood, leather and earth abound, stemming from the artisanal blend.

Petit Robusto (4.5” x 49) – SRP per cigar $6.99 (25 cigars per box)
Esplendido (4.5” x 60) – SRP per cigar $7.49 (25 cigars per box)

News: La Gloria Cubana Society Cigar Announced

Here’s some news from Forged Cigars, the distributor of La Gloria Cubana.  This project is like the Punch The People’s Champ, where the blend is basically crowd sourced. Interestingly, this cigar is a Honduran Puro, the first La Gloria that I know of made with all Honduran leaf. As a 25 year fan of LGC, I’m interested to try this one.

LA GLORIA CUBANA SOCIETY CIGAR TO SHIP NEXT MONTH

La Gloria Cubana empowered its fans to develop the brand’s latest limited edition release. Called the La Gloria Cubana Society Cigar, the new expression is named after a special group of cigar smokers that interact with the brand regularly both online through the LGC website and offline through La Gloria activations across the US.

The La Gloria Cubana Society Cigar was developed with input from more than 2,000 of the brand’s most devoted fans from across the U.S. They consulted on the profile, packaging and size of the cigar in a collaborative process that spanned nearly a year.

It’s been a pleasure to harness the Society’s passion for La Gloria and it’s an honor to provide them with a cigar that reflects what the brand represents to them. We look forward to collaborating with this great group of tenured smokers on future releases,” said Steve Abbot, director of marketing for La Gloria Cubana.

Handcrafted at the El Credito Cigar Factory, a stand-alone rolling gallery within General Cigar Dominicana, the La Gloria Cigar Society cigar is a Honduran puro, with filler tobacco from Jamastran and La Entrada, with a Jamastran binder and is crowned with a lustrous Olancho San Agustin wrapper. The medium to full-bodied smoke is brimming with notes of earth, nuts and coffee.

The cigars are available in one size, a box-pressed toro that’s presented in 20-count, wooden boxes. A total of 2,500 boxes will be released in early August and is being distributed by Forged Cigar Company.

News: Diesel Announces Launch of Esteli Puro

Here’s some news from General Cigar. I am going to have to get out and shop for some new cigars one of these days! Diesel’s offerings have been hit and miss with me lately, I either really like them or I don’t. This one sounds promising. I kinda like the large ring gauges across the range.

DIESEL PRESENTS “ESTELí PURO”

A highly-anticipated release from Diesel is set to make its debut next month. Called “Estelí Puro,” the full-time addition to the Diesel lineup was created in collaboration with AJ Fernandez.

This tobacco-forward release is poised to become a core product in the Diesel portfolio.

The collection harnesses the strength and complexity of Estelí’s renowned tobacco which comes from the darkest and most dense of Nicaraguan soils. Each of the tobaccos that comprise Diesel Estelí Puro were hand-selected from AJ’s farms to meet specific requirements set forth by the Diesel team. The wrapper was harvested from La Lilia, the binder from San José and the fillers from several plots including AJ’s celebrated San Lotano farm.

Senior Brand Manager Justin Andrews said, “Estelí Puro represents the future of Diesel in that the story of the blend is told by the tobacco itself. With Estelí Puro, we made a collection that is completely unique in its bold flavor profile, yet has many of the attributes that have made the other Diesel expressions a cigar of choice among dyed-in-the-wool smokers. This is a cigar that demands the smoker’s full attention with deep and balanced flavor, a strong presentation and an attractive price point.”

Blended by AJ Fernandez, handcrafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Estelí, Nicaragua and developed by General Cigar’s Justin Andrews, Diesel Estelí Puro is made with hand-selected leaves that are cultivated, processed and aged by AJ’s team. Heady aroma and spice dominate, lending body and dimension to the cigar, and delivering a smoke for experienced palates.

Diesel Estelí Puro will be available in three sizes, sold in 20-count boxes and will begin shipping to retailers on September 1.

Robusto 5.25” x 54 — SRP per cigar $8.99

Toro 6” x 54 — SRP per cigar $9.49

Gigante 6” x 60 — SRP per cigar $9.99

About Diesel

Handcrafted by artisans in Estelí, Nicaragua, Diesel cigars are “bold by design.” The brand challenges the current conventions of the handmade cigar category through the bold, unapologetic style of its Cigar Master, AJ Fernandez. Diesel cigars are unified by their deeply complex flavor which is achieved through AJ’s steadfast adherence to time honored cigar making techniques and his insistence on using the highest quality tobacco. The Diesel portfolio includes Delirium which debuted earlier this year; Hair of the Dog which was released in 2019; Whiskey Row which launched two expressions, one in 2019 and one in 2018, and Diesel Grind which debuted in 2017. For more information, visit www.dieselcigar.com.

News: Diesel Launches Whiskey Row in Partnership with Rabbit Hole Bourbon

Here’s some news from General Cigar Company today.  You know I’m not a drinker, so when I smoke cigars that are aged in spirits barrels I often wonder if I’m missing something because of my lack of taste experience. Hardly matters, give them a try and let me know!

Diesel presents Whiskey Row, a collection blended by AJ Fernandez and developed in partnership with Rabbit Hole Bourbon, a maverick new distillery making its mark on the bourbon category. Whiskey Row features binder leaves aged in bourbon barrels, in a proprietary process developed by AJ to enhance the profile of the cigar.

Diesel Senior Brand Manager Justin Andrews said, “The partnership between Diesel and Rabbit Hole speaks of going against the grain in traditional industries. Rabbit Hole doesn’t claim to use 12 year old juice or have a 6th generation master distiller, much like Diesel doesn’t claim to be an old Cuban brand or have tobaccos that have been aged for 20 years. Both Rabbit Hole and Diesel are young, energetic brands with a unique go-to-market strategy. We knew the first time both companies sat down, there was a tremendous amount of synergy.”

Kaveh Zamanian, founder and whiskey maker of Rabbit Hole Bourbon said, “Together, cigars and great whiskey have created uncountable moments of quiet joy. Aging fine tobacco in bourbon barrels which were used to age Rabbit Hole Bourbon modernizes that great tradition. We’re excited that our partnership with Diesel gives us a hand in adding depth to what is already a profoundly enjoyable experience.”

The synergy between both brands was brought to life in 2016 when Rabbit Hole Bourbon barrels arrived at Tabalacera AJ Fernandez in Esteli, Nicaragua. AJ placed the Mexican San Andres binder in the bourbon barrels in a special configuration. The tobacco was left to rest inside the barrels, and the amount of air inside was controlled at regular intervals to ensure the bourbon flavors were imparted evenly.

AJ Fernandez says, “A lot of passion went into this process and I am very pleased with the results. Aging the binder leaf in the bourbon barrels added an unexpected layer of flavor and aroma right beneath the wrapper. When you smoke Whiskey Row, you get a unique and complex experience that engages the senses unlike any other cigar I’ve smoked.”

Diesel Whiskey Row features a three-region blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos from Ometepe, Condega and Jalapa, each aged 5 to 8 years, and enveloped in the bourbon-barrel-aged Mexican binder. The entire blend is wrapped in Ecuadoran Habano which is aged for five years.

The spice and full flavor of the Nicaraguan tobacco, with the aroma, flavor and slight sweetness of the wrapper/binder combo delivers oaky flavor notes and hints of bourbon in the aroma. Diesel Whiskey Row is a very versatile, medium-bodied smoke that plays well with bourbon and other complementary flavors.

Diesel Whiskey Row will launch in June with four sizes, each presented in 25-count boxes.

Robusto 5.5 x 52 – SRP per cigar is $7.49

Toro 6 x 54 – SRP per cigar is $7.99

Churchill 7 x 49 – SRP per cigar is $8.49

Gigante 6 x 60 – SRP per cigar is $8.99

Beginning in July, Diesel Whiskey Row events featuring pairings with Rabbit Hole Bourbon will be held at select cigar shops across the U.S. For more information, visit www.dieselcigar.com.
