News: Drew Estate Unveils Undercrown 10 to Commemorate its “Decade of Dedication”

Here’s some Friday news. Last night on Drew Estate’s Freestyle Live event they announced this cigar. The cigar was included as a “mystery cigar” with the Freestyle Live pack, and I smoked it and it was really good. I was fooled though, I didn’t think it was a San Andrés wrapped cigar, it tasted more Broadleafy to me, and I wasn’t the only one who thought so. Whatever I think, it was San Anrés and is a great cigar, and I look forward to it’s release. I can remember hearing about the Undercrown back in 2011 when I was at Cigar Safari for the first time. I dig it.

Drew Estate is commemorating ten years of Undercrown with the global release of Undercrown 10, a bold new ultra-premium addition to Undercrown’s current premium lineup of Maduro, Shade and Sun Grown expressions.

To celebrate the brand’s anniversary in 2021, Drew Estate is getting “All Dekked Out,” a tag line that denotes Undercrown 10’s elegant packaging and reinforces the pride of Undercrown’s ten years of excellence. The new, sophisticated packaging is surpassed only by Undercrown 10’s complex, rich and bold blend of ultra-premium aged tobaccos that includes the highest priming of Mexican San Andres dark wrapper, the very finest Broadleaf binder from the Connecticut River Valley, and a tripa blend of select and rare Nicaraguan tobaccos.

“Undercrown 10 offers smokers an experience of Mexican hot chocolate … naturally sweet with hints of raisin and cacao … waves of intense black pepper … along with notes of sun-dried cherries, espresso, woodiness and earthiness,” says La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate Factory Spokesman, Pedro Gomez.

Undercrown 10 will debut with four core vitolas: Toro (6 x 52), Robusto (5 x 50), Corona (5 x 43) and Corona Doble (7 x 50), each available in 20-count boxes. A limited-edition Undercrown 10 “Factory Floor Edition” (6 x 46 Lonsdale) will additionally debut in July. The Undercrown 10 Factory Floor Edition is packaged in commemorative 20-count boxes, and includes a unique “tobacco leaf library,” offering each lucky purchaser the opportunity to see, smell and touch the very leaves that Drew Estate’s torcedores painstakingly chose for Undercrown 10’s new powerhouse blend. Finally, the Undercrown 10 Tuani Belicoso (6 x 52) will be exclusively available in a special 2-count presentation coffin/box at Undercrown 10 events hosted by Gomez.

Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate’s Founder and President pontificates, “Undercrown is a noble prince of a brand, both humble and loyal, who is now to become a king. The new UC10 expression represents its super-premium platform, sealing the brand’s destiny … as the good king whose brand promise is gratitude for our talented team at La Gran Fabrica. The new UC10 is so incredibly important to Drew Estate that we gave it two slogans, ‘A Decade of Dedication’ and ‘All Dekked Out.’ Add those two slogans to ‘Born on the Factory Floor,’ and the Shakespeare really unfolds.”

Born on the factory floor at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, the Undercrown brand is a passionate testament to the creative talent, dedication and self-determination of Drew Estate’s torcedores. Blended with many of the same rare vintages found in Liga Privada, Undercrown quickly became a grand slam for Drew Estate as consumers felt a deep personal connection to the grass-roots firebrand that celebrates the typically unheralded working-class heroes employed at the Drew Estate cigar factory.

Undercrown 10’s core vitolas will ship to retailers beginning in May. MSRPs for the Undercrown 10 cigars will be: Robusto $235/box or $11.75/cigar; Toro $240/box or $12/cigar; Corona Doble $270/box or $13.50/cigar; and Corona Viva $210/box or $10.50/cigar. Undercrown 10 Factory Floor Edition will debut in July with an MSRP of $272/box or $13.60/cigar.

News: Drew Estate Re-Imagines, Re-Packages, and Re-Releases the Nica Rustica Brand

Here’s something that may not be well known, but Nica Rustica might be my favorite Drew Estate cigar. I’ve often said that I’d happily buy two or three before I’d buy a Liga Privada, just because I find them to be just as good a cigar at a far better price. I do think they were better with the wild “rustica” tobacco in the blend, not many people got to try that back in 2013, before they were released, bu that tobacco was impossible to source in a sustainable manner, as it grows wild along side the road. It really added something special to the cigar though. The final version ended up being darned good, and I hope they don’t mess it up. The new packaging looks spiffy!

Drew Estate unveils a top-to-bottom relaunch of its affordable Nica Rustica brand with a newfound commitment to the trade and consumer, including a detailed roadmap to take the beloved cult brand to the next level !!

From the Wynwood Safehouse in Miami, Florida, Drew Estate Founder and President, Jonathan Drew confesses, “We did NO JUSTICE to this beautiful brand the first time around, but now you’re hometown heroes, Drew Estate, are ready for redemption as we re-launch Nica Rustica with a newfound conceptual lens, commitment to excellence, and overarching strategy that I personally warranty to make the good people of Estelí super proud of us. Come join Willy, Pedro, Frank and me for the big debut on the Drew Estate Freestyle Live: Special Edition, which will air on Thursday, May 6th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Drew Estate’s Facebook Live page (facebook.com/drewestatecigar).”

Founded upon a message of tribute to the people of Estelí, Nicaragua, the completely new packaging and artwork has been hand painted by Subculture Studios’ lead artist Richard “Dog” Diaz, celebrating the home to La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate and

the good people who live there.

“The Pride of Estelí” … rugged, robust, rustic and always satisfying, Nica Rustica Broadleaf Selection is a medium-to-full bodied smoke that’s unpolished, unrefined and perfect for hardcore tobacco lovers. As part of Nica Rustica’s relaunch, graffiti artist Diaz draws his inspiration from the colorful colonial houses that make up Estelí’s lively, winding street barrios. Drew Estate is replacing Nica Rustica’s traditional black-bundle packaging with classy wooden boxes that adorn Diaz’s artwork. The “El Brujito” image of a shaman (or witch doctor) that was carved in stone by Pre-Colombian indigenous folk living near Estelí more than 6,000 years ago is retained in some parts of the presentation, but respectfully minimized in the new rendition.

People who have grown to love Nica Rustica need not worry, as the Nica Rustica blend will remain unchanged and will retain its dark, rustic, spicy and robust flavor profile, though it will now be known as Nica Rustica Broadleaf. Nica Rustica Broadleaf features a Connecticut River Valley Broadleaf Medium wrapper, Mexican San Andres Negro binder and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from Estelí and Jalapa, with availability beginning in July for three sizes: Belly (7 1⁄2 x 54, Belicoso), El Brujito (6 x 52, Toro) and Short Robusto (4 1⁄2 x 50). Each vitola will be packaged in 25-count boxes.

Jonathan Drew continues, “When Drew Estate opened its doors in Estelí in 1998, the mission, philosophy and mantra was to unite New York City and Nicaragua to birth a cigar company unlike any that the world has ever experienced. From our earliest days, the most important core value was our bond to Estelí, the newly proclaimed ‘Mecca of Cigars.’ Nica Rustica has always been a high tribute to our Nicaraguan colleagues and community, as well as toward its boundless future. This redo is long overdue, and we nailed it in every aspect. We are investing huge Swisher money behind this brand, believe that.”

Nica Rustica provides excellent value for premium cigar smokers, from beginners to aficionados. Belly has an MSRP of $161.93/box or $6.48/cigar; El Brujito’s MSRP is $143.93/box or $5.76/cigar, and Short Robusto has an MSRP of $125.93/box or $5.04/cigar. The re-imagined Nica Rustica cigars will be available beginning in July.

News: Drew Estate to Release 2021 Limited Edition Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro and Sun Grown

Here’s some more news from Drew Estate, it’s sure been a busy news week from DE (and JdN, which is distributed by DE). I normally would let Dojo pimp their own stuff, but since this is out in the wild, and they are great cigars, I’m happy to pass the news along.  I love the extra little punch that the Dogma blend has because they based it off the Corona Viva which has extra ligero in the blend. They are tasty smokes whatever way you look at it.

Drew Estate and Cigar Dojo team up once again to release the 2021 limited edition Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown and Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro. The pair of box-pressed Undercrown Dojo Dogma cigars will be available exclusively for Drew Diplomat Program participants and will be showcased on “Freestyle Live: Special Edition” on Drew Estate’s Facebook page (facebook.com/drewestatecigar) on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Drew Estate released the first Undercrown Dojo Dogma to celebrate Cigar Dojo’s first anniversary in 2014 to massive acclaim. The first Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown appeared three years later after the Cigar Dojo team named Drew Estate’s Undercrown Sun Grown its “Cigar of the Year.” Since then, the annual release of Undercrown Dojo Dogma has become highly anticipated for cigar connoisseurs who quickly snatch up the limited-edition box-pressed cigars.

Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate Founder and President explains, “The Cigar Dojo community represents true cigar fellowship … !! DE has always been proud of our association with Dojo and the vast, diverse crew who rep the name. Undercrown Dojo Dogma is a passion project for our factory torcedors and Pedro Gomez, our Factory Spokesman, who feel as though they are expressing their heart and soul directly to the final consumers with each puff … almost as if they are speaking to them, face-to-face during our factory tours, Cigar Safari.”

Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro is a powerhouse cigar that was blend-based upon the Undercrown Corona Viva mega-hit. It’s composed of a toothy Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper, a spicy Connecticut stalk-cut and stalk-cured Habano binder and incorporates a filler tobacco recipe featuring only the highest quality Nicaraguan Habano and Brazilian Mata Fina leaves. Earthy, rich and smooth with inherent sweetness, the 2021 Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro is a medium-to full-bodied cigar that is box-pressed and will be featured in the Corona Gorda (6 x 56) vitola. Previously, Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro cigars were packaged in 10-Count Soft Packs, but they will now be featured in 10-count wooden boxes that will be emblazoned with both the Undercrown and Cigar Dojo logos.

The box-pressed Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown (5 x 54, Robusto) features an Ecuadorian Sumatra sun-grown wrapper, Connecticut River Valley stalk-cut and stalk-cured sun-grown Habano binder and a blend of Nicaraguan premium filler tobaccos, including a leaf of extensively-aged ligero from the Nueva Segovia region along the Nicaraguan border of Honduras, providing extra body to the blend. Dogma Sun Grown will be packaged in 24-count wooden boxes that also feature the Undercrown and Cigar Dojo logos.

From the Cigar Dojo studios in Lakewood, Colorado, Master Sensei Eric Guttormson comments, “Undercrown Dojo Dogma has been our most popular collaborative cigar by far. They smoke great right out of the box and improve even more with proper age. Our friends and retailers who make up the Cigar Dojo community truly look forward to its release every year, and they never last long on retailers’ shelves or inside consumers’ humidors.”

The Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown is packaged in 24-count wooden boxes with an MSRP of $258 and will be available beginning in August. Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro is packaged in 10-count wooden boxes with an MSRP of $112 and will begin shipping in October.

News: Herrera Estelí Limited Edition Lanceros Return as Drew Diplomat Program Exclusive

If you’re a Lancero fan, you can hardly go wrong with the Herrera Esteli Lanceros.  To be honest, I enjoy the Lancero about the most in the regular Herrera Esteli line, taking the Norteño and Brazilian Maduro out of the equation. Something about the Lanceros hit me right, and it doesn’t have anything to do with any wrapper to filler ratio nonsense. Then there’s the broadleaf version that’s super yummy. Read on…

Drew Estate will release limited edition Lanceros for Herrera Estelí Habano and Herrera Estelí Connecticut Broadleaf for 2021. Exclusive for Drew Diplomat Program participants, the limited-edition Herrera Estelí Lanceros will debut during Drew Estate’s Freestyle Live: Special Edition, which airs on Thursday, May 6th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern on Drew Estate’s Facebook Live page (facebook.com/drewestatecigar).

A notoriously difficult vitola to make, there are only four bunchero-rollera teams at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate who are qualified to craft the Lancero size (7 x 38) due to its narrow ring gauge. Lanceros require expert hands to perfectly arrange the individual tobacco components, assuring the cigars’ complexity and ideal draw, which is difficult to attain. Cigar connoisseurs around the world appreciate the Lancero vitola partly because they respect the handcrafted talent that’s necessary to create the cigars and partly because they enjoy the heavy wrapper emphasis realized while smoking a Lancero.

Willy Herrera, Master Blender of Drew Estate, says from the El Titan de Bronze factory in Little Havana, “The Lancero size is the one vitola where you get to experience the real essence of a cigar’s blend and savor the truest taste of all of the cigar’s individual components. In larger sizes, where there is proportionally more binder and filler leaf in the blend, a wrapper’s flavor profile might be masked a little bit. A Lancero brings out the intensity of all the tobaccos’ flavor. I always prefer to smoke a Lancero when I can, and I wanted to make sure fans of Herrera Estelí could enjoy the same experience.”

The Herrera Estelí Habano Lancero is made using a flavorful Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Honduran Habano binder and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The medium-bodied cigars are sweet and spicy with cedar wood notes. The Herrera Estelí Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero is composed of an exceptional higher priming of Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that Drew Estate reserves throughout the year exclusively for this cigar, a bold Brazilian Mata Fina and rich Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The blend offers a smoking experience that’s spicy, elegant and smooth.

Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate Founder and President, adds from the Wynwood Safehouse, “Lanceros are certainly not as popular as large ring gauge cigars, but they have a cult following amongst the most educated cigar geeks who love majestic capa leaf, what I call the ‘oro’ of the plant. Everyone knows that Willy blends spectacular Lanceros.”

Both the Herrera Estelí Habano and Herrera Estelí Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero are packaged in 15-count boxes with an MSRP of $194.24. The cigars will be available exclusive to Drew Diplomat Program participants. Herrera Estelí Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero will be available beginning in June; Herrera Estelí Habano Lancero will be available beginning in August.

News: Drew Estate Barn Smokers Return Beginning in August 2021

Well, it looks like the Barn Smokers are back! I’ve been to the Pennsylvania Barn Smoker twice, and the Connecticut Barn Smoker once and they were great, but there were a lot of people there! I can see where smaller crowds in a more controlled environment would be more enjoyable. I’m just a little sad that there won’t be one in PA. Read on, while I go find a Liga Privada of some sort to smoke tonight, and watch for a cool contest in the near future.

Drew Estate Barn Smokers Return Beginning in August 2021

Drew Estate will resume its Barn Smoker program in 2021 after a year’s hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The company will host three Barn Smokers beginning with the Connecticut Barn Smoker on Aug. 14-15 in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley. The Kentucky Barn Smoker will follow in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on Oct. 9. Finally, the Florida Barn Smoker will take place on Nov. 13-14 in Clermont, Florida.

Drew Estate hosted its first Barn Smoker in 2014 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, bringing cigar consumers to the farms where Drew Estate sources some of its specialty, often rare tobaccos. Attendees are immersed into the real American tobacco experience by learning about tobacco growing, leaf processing and finishing and cigar making techniques.

Each guest will receive special Drew Estate cigars and exclusive Barn Smoker swag, while tasting local cuisine and sampling premium spirits in a festival atmosphere.

Drew Estate’s 2021 Barn Smoker program will include a few small changes to protect attendees and Drew Estate personnel and event vendors from Covid-19. The Connecticut and Florida Barn Smokers, typically the two largest events in the Barn Smoker calendar, will each be spread over two separate event days, which will accommodate smaller crowds for each event session and each event session will require a separate ticket Additionally, Drew Estate will follow any local protocols required to ensure safety at the events.

As always, Barn Smoker attendees will enjoy an immersive deep dive into a variety of unique sensory activations that will focus on Drew Estate brands, including: Undercrown, Herrera Estelí, Pappy Van Winkle, Joya de Nicaragua, FSG, Tabak Especial and ACID, while chillin’ with Drew Estate ambassadors, including company founder and president, Jonathan Drew; master blender, Willy Herrera; and La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate factory spokesman, Pedro Gomez. Of course, your favorite Drew Estate sales force members will be at the Barn Smokers as well.

From the Wynwood Safehouse, Drew Estate’s founder and president, Jonathan Drew says, “Last year was tough for everybody and we all missed celebrating American tobacco, smoking and having a drink together … but 2021 is going to prove that we are all unbeaten and unbowed. This year’s Barn Smokers will have a bit more special meaning than before because we’re finally going be together again in #fellowship after a long period of isolation. I’m excited to bond with everyone and raise money for our Cigars For Warriors peeps.”

There are three ticket tiers available for each 2021 Barn Smoker—General Admission, VIP and VIP Plus Dinner. General Admission tickets enable consumers to attend one day of the Barn Smoker event and includes a packet of swag and 10 Drew Estate cigars. Consumers who purchase a VIP ticket will have early access to the farm to join us for a Tabak Especial breakfast experience and receive exclusive VIP Barn Smoker swag. The VIP Plus Dinner ticket will include an invitation to dinner with Drew Estate Ambassadors on the Friday night before each Barn Smoker, early access for a Tabak breakfast experi

ence and admission for both days of the 2-day farm events.

Tickets and more information about the 2021 Barn Smokers are available at www.barnsmoker.com.
