News: Drew Estate to Release 2021 Limited Edition Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro and Sun Grown

Here’s some more news from Drew Estate, it’s sure been a busy news week from DE (and JdN, which is distributed by DE). I normally would let Dojo pimp their own stuff, but since this is out in the wild, and they are great cigars, I’m happy to pass the news along. I love the extra little punch that the Dogma blend has because they based it off the Corona Viva which has extra ligero in the blend. They are tasty smokes whatever way you look at it.

Drew Estate and Cigar Dojo team up once again to release the 2021 limited edition Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown and Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro. The pair of box-pressed Undercrown Dojo Dogma cigars will be available exclusively for Drew Diplomat Program participants and will be showcased on “Freestyle Live: Special Edition” on Drew Estate’s Facebook page (facebook.com/drewestatecigar) on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Drew Estate released the first Undercrown Dojo Dogma to celebrate Cigar Dojo’s first anniversary in 2014 to massive acclaim. The first Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown appeared three years later after the Cigar Dojo team named Drew Estate’s Undercrown Sun Grown its “Cigar of the Year.” Since then, the annual release of Undercrown Dojo Dogma has become highly anticipated for cigar connoisseurs who quickly snatch up the limited-edition box-pressed cigars.

Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro is a powerhouse cigar that was blend-based upon the Undercrown Corona Viva mega-hit. It’s composed of a toothy Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper, a spicy Connecticut stalk-cut and stalk-cured Habano binder and incorporates a filler tobacco recipe featuring only the highest quality Nicaraguan Habano and Brazilian Mata Fina leaves. Earthy, rich and smooth with inherent sweetness, the 2021 Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro is a medium-to full-bodied cigar that is box-pressed and will be featured in the Corona Gorda (6 x 56) vitola. Previously, Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro cigars were packaged in 10-Count Soft Packs, but they will now be featured in 10-count wooden boxes that will be emblazoned with both the Undercrown and Cigar Dojo logos.

The box-pressed Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown (5 x 54, Robusto) features an Ecuadorian Sumatra sun-grown wrapper, Connecticut River Valley stalk-cut and stalk-cured sun-grown Habano binder and a blend of Nicaraguan premium filler tobaccos, including a leaf of extensively-aged ligero from the Nueva Segovia region along the Nicaraguan border of Honduras, providing extra body to the blend. Dogma Sun Grown will be packaged in 24-count wooden boxes that also feature the Undercrown and Cigar Dojo logos.

The Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown is packaged in 24-count wooden boxes with an MSRP of $258 and will be available beginning in August. Undercrown Dojo Dogma Maduro is packaged in 10-count wooden boxes with an MSRP of $112 and will begin shipping in October.

News: Herrera Estelí Limited Edition Lanceros Return as Drew Diplomat Program Exclusive

If you’re a Lancero fan, you can hardly go wrong with the Herrera Esteli Lanceros. To be honest, I enjoy the Lancero about the most in the regular Herrera Esteli line, taking the Norteño and Brazilian Maduro out of the equation. Drew Estate will release limited edition Lanceros for Herrera Estelí Habano and Herrera Estelí Connecticut Broadleaf for 2021. Exclusive for Drew Diplomat Program participants, the limited-edition Herrera Estelí Lanceros will debut during Drew Estate’s Freestyle Live: Special Edition, which airs on Thursday, May 6th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern on Drew Estate’s Facebook Live page (facebook.com/drewestatecigar).

A notoriously difficult vitola to make, there are only four bunchero-rollera teams at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate who are qualified to craft the Lancero size (7 x 38) due to its narrow ring gauge. Lanceros require expert hands to perfectly arrange the individual tobacco components, assuring the cigars’ complexity and ideal draw, which is difficult to attain. Cigar connoisseurs around the world appreciate the Lancero vitola partly because they respect the handcrafted talent that’s necessary to create the cigars and partly because they enjoy the heavy wrapper emphasis realized while smoking a Lancero.

News: Drew Estate Barn Smokers Return Beginning in August 2021

Well, it looks like the Barn Smokers are back! I’ve been to the Pennsylvania Barn Smoker twice, and the Connecticut Barn Smoker once and they were great, but there were a lot of people there! I can see where smaller crowds in a more controlled environment would be more enjoyable. I’m just a little sad that there won’t be one in PA. Read on, while I go find a Liga Privada of some sort to smoke tonight, and watch for a cool contest in the near future.

Drew Estate Barn Smokers Return Beginning in August 2021

Drew Estate will resume its Barn Smoker program in 2021 after a year’s hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The company will host three Barn Smokers beginning with the Connecticut Barn Smoker on Aug. 14-15 in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley. The Kentucky Barn Smoker will follow in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on Oct. 9. Finally, the Florida Barn Smoker will take place on Nov. 13-14 in Clermont, Florida.

Drew Estate hosted its first Barn Smoker in 2014 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, bringing cigar consumers to the farms where Drew Estate sources some of its specialty, often rare tobaccos. Attendees are immersed into the real American tobacco experience by learning about tobacco growing, leaf processing and finishing and cigar making techniques. Each guest will receive special Drew Estate cigars and exclusive Barn Smoker swag, while tasting local cuisine and sampling premium spirits in a festival atmosphere.

Drew Estate’s 2021 Barn Smoker program will include a few small changes to protect attendees and Drew Estate personnel and event vendors from Covid-19. The Connecticut and Florida Barn Smokers, typically the two largest events in the Barn Smoker calendar, will each be spread over two separate event days, which will accommodate smaller crowds for each event session and each event session will require a separate ticket Additionally, Drew Estate will follow any local protocols required to ensure safety at the events.

As always, Barn Smoker attendees will enjoy an immersive deep dive into a variety of unique sensory activations that will focus on Drew Estate brands, including: Undercrown, Herrera Estelí, Pappy Van Winkle, Joya de Nicaragua, FSG, Tabak Especial and ACID, while chillin’ with Drew Estate ambassadors, including company founder and president, Jonathan Drew; master blender, Willy Herrera; and La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate factory spokesman, Pedro Gomez. Of course, your favorite Drew Estate sales force members will be at the Barn Smokers as well.

There are three ticket tiers available for each 2021 Barn Smoker—General Admission, VIP and VIP Plus Dinner. News: Drew Estate Will Air Freestyle Live: Special Edition Thursday, May 6th

Here’s the first of a couple Wednesday news items. This is another big Drew Estate Freestyle Live Facebook Event. This one looks to be an interesting one! I may have to tune in. Will Pedro be drinking Presidente or his favorite “Jingling” beer? (a bit of an inside joke between Pedro and I).

Drew Estate will air Freestyle Live: Special Edition on Thursday, May 6th, on its Facebook Live page (facebook.com/drewestatecigar) at its usual broadcast time of 7-9 p.m. EST, but this episode will be a shocker to both consumers and trade alike, so get ready!

A Celtic Ash Cigar from Humidity Cigars and a Deadwoods Crazy Alice

After the folks at Humidity Cigars were kind enough to send me a sample of their monthly subscription pack to try, I placed an order with them to see what would really happen! I chose the “Flight and Light” pack which, at the time, was on sale for $30. I was hoping for some new and interesting cigars to try, and I did get that. I recently had a conversation with Ernesto Padilla about why I hadn’t posted many of his cigar recently, my answer was that they were not available in the shops I visited, so I now have a Padilla (which I have to find out about). One think I would like to see included with the Humidity Cigars shipments is details on the cigars, maybe that’s just because I’m a cigar geek, or I need the details. Fortunately, Gian, the owner of the company, has been responsive to my questions. Yesterday I dug into the pack and smoked the cigar that looked the most interesting to me, the Celtic Ash.

The Celtic Ash seems to be an exclusive to Humidity Cigars. I should have measured it, but I think it was around 6½” x 52 or 54 maybe. I suppose I expected to find some information about it somewhere, being the optimist that I am (sometimes). I did confirm that it has a Corojo wrapper with Dominican binder and fillers. The wrapper is a dark shade, which is one of the things that drew me to it, as well as the size, which was appropriate for the time I had available. I assume this was included in a March pack to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day, kudos to them for not falling into the candella trap. The cigar is very good, despite some slight burn irregularities, nothing a little torch work can’t fix. It had some really nice sweet and spice flavors, good, well fermented tobacco. Whoever made this for Humidity Cigars knew what they were doing. I admit, at first look with my admittedly jaded eye, I was concerned with the selection I received, now I’m looking forward to trying the MyLuck and Padilla at least (I think I’ve smoked La Perla a long time ago, but I’ll give it another shot). I’ve been impressed with the service so far, the cigars are well packaged and presented.

I have a pet peeve or two, and one big one is when folks insist that Drew Estate‘s Larutan (nee Natural) and the Deadwoods are infused or flavored. I’ve actually seen people argue with Vaughn Boyd, who owned Deadwood Cigars in South Dakota, for whom the Deadwood line was made, about this point. You’d think she would know the answer. I’m going to give you the answer right now, they are not infused or flavored, except that they have a sweet cap in some cases. The exotic tobaccos that are used, the Periques, Syrians and Latakias, that are more traditionally used in pipe tobaccos, are not cased in sweet stuff, they are processed like cigar tobaccos. I know this from discussions with people at Drew Estate and having been to the factory on two occasions. People will still argue that they are infused cigars because they don’t taste like traditional cigars, but that’s because the tobaccos they use taste different! After having this argument yet again yesterday, and correcting someone who should have known better, an “influencer” if you will, I decided to smoke a Crazy Alice. This is a cool shape and a really interesting little smoke. I recently picked up a box of these just because I enjoy them for a change of pace once in a while. They are an explosion of flavor, unique spices and sweetness, I just find them very enjoyable. It filled an hour in between dinner and the Flyers game very nicely. Just because something is different, doesn’t mean it’s wrong!
