TPE 2020 Day 3: The Vape/Alternative Side Walk-Around and Contest Time!

I spent this morning cleaning up a malware/phishing situation on my site for which my host suspended my account. If you happened to visit and got a screen saying the account was suspended, that’s why. I only have opt-in email alerts, so don’t say yes to any other prompts for notifications if you get any!  I’m working on getting it figured out. I don’t know if I picked up more than a head cold in Vegas or what.  Anyway, I wanted to share with you the video walk through of the Vape/ alternative portion of the Tobacco Plus Expo.  I’ll be honest, the first few times I ventured onto the blue carpet, I freaked out a little and made a hasty retreat to the safety of the red area. I supposed it validated my old-fuddyduddyness a little.  I noticed a great many disposable vape products, which was a surprise to me. The first reason it was a surprise was that I thought the target market for this sort of product was supposed to be more socially conscious and recycling minded. In a world where we have people carrying stainless steel drinking straws, using a disposable vape with a battery seems counterintuitive. That being said, I was approached by a young man who offered me samples, and as I explained my cigar passion and how it doesn’t involve getting a quick fix, I did accept one for my cousin who is a cigarette smoker, and I had observed smoking about half a cigarette at a time. The product was from a company called Hitt, and I mention it here as a courtesy to them as they were kind enough to provide me with samples when I tried to talk them out of it. My cousin, a long time Marlboro Red, and formerly Winston smoker, found that he liked the flavor, and liked that he could just take a few hits and put it down. He was going to experiment with it and see if it could wean if off cigarettes. I hope it works for him as he’s recently lost weight through diet and exercise and quitting cigarettes would be one more thing to help him lead a healthier life (he’s ten years my senior). Anyway, not cigar related, but I wanted to mention that since they were nice enough to force samples on me 🙂 .  Enjoy the walk through.  If there’s an interest, I’ll put the 20 minute real-time version up on YouTube.

Contest!

I’ve been threatening this for a while.  As you well know, I’ve become a huge fan of Danli Honduras Tobacco’s cigars.  It’s come to my attention that one of my local shops, Cigar Mojo in King of Prussia, PA, has started carrying the line. I have a feeling that Trae might have gotten the idea to bring them in from me, but I haven’t confirmed that. I need everyone to call or e-mail Trae (610-564-2471 or@CIGAR-MOJO TRAE.COMand order some Don Juan Calavera or Flor Maya cigars from him! You don’t even have to tell him I sent ya.  Anyway, to celebrate another place to buy these great cigars in the US, I’m going to give some of mine away. I’ve assembled a sampler. I have everything in the line except the Flor Maya Maduro and the Clown, the latter of which I haven’t even smoked yet. There’s Don Juan Calavera Connecticut, Maduro and Sumarta, Flor Maya Habano and Connecticut, and Marchitti. If I can get my hands on the other ones they will be included. The prize with include two of each cigar pictured, and there will be other swag included at my whim! That’s a minimum of a dozen cigars, and some other goodies. Usual rules apply. one entry per person, must be over twenty one to win, and I’ll pick a winner next Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Only comments on this site will count as entries. Good luck! The winner will enjoy these cigars!

It’s already been a long day, I hope nonsense is behind me!  Anyway, until the next time,

A Flor Maya, Some Auction News and Not A Lot Else

Since last I typed here I worked a lot and smoked a little. I had a remarkable RoMaCraft Aquitaine Cranium that was a gift from Patrick when we met up in Miami last month, and a Flor Maya Connecticut from Danli Honduras Tabaco, which I like, but I enjoy the Don Juan Calavera line from them more. Perhaps the Flor Mayas just need some more time in the humidor. There are some really interesting flavors in that cigar, I think it just needs some more time to rest. I’ve really become a fan of this company, they are a relatively unknown brand, and everyone I share their cigars with seem to be impressed. I’m down right enamored with the Don Juan Calavera, to the point where I have to consciously avoid smoking them to the exclusion of everything else in the humidor. This doesn’t happen to me. What all this leads up to is that I’m not coming up with a great deal to write about today! I’d like to point out the new J.C. Newman contest linked in the graphic on the right side of the page. Instead of giving away monthly humidors, they are giving away one big humidor at the end of the year! I do have a question for my readers: did any of you win any of the monthly humidor prizes over the last year? I hope people are entering the contests, don’t embarrass me by not entering!

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll notice a lot of posts about auctions featuring cigar related items. My wife actually follows these, and she came across one coming up in November here in PA that looks interesting and we might try to go if I have the day (or days) off. It’s a two day auction of Coin-op and Advertising in Denver PA, which is near Reading. Day two looks more interesting, as there’s more signs and countertop cigar cutters, although there are some really neat cigar vending machines and trade stimulators on Day one. I have some neat antique cigar items my wife has bought in these auctions in my collection.

I’m out of stuff to write and I need to go to work. I have some new-to-me cigars to smoke that I’ll try to get to this week, and a new toy to play with and report on in the near future. So, until the next time,

CigarCraig.com Tenth Anniversary Contest Winner Announcement!

This is going to be a quick one as my wife and I are flying off for a few days of R&R.  Thanks to everyone who entered the contest for their kind words and for coming back to read my nonsense over the years! When I first started writing here I never imagined people would read it and it was pretty much just my own amusement and a way to keep track of what I smoked. Who would have thought it would have become whatever it is now!  So thanks to all of you who read it regularly and come across it in searches. There are hundreds of cigars and bunches of accessories discussed in these pages, and dozens of events.  I’m fortunate to know many people as a result.  So I’m going to select two winners from the 40 entries, and each of those two winners is going to get a ten cigar sampler. I know, I pictured 15 cigars, I’ll split them up and make up the difference and both will be equal!  The two winners are Karl and Michael Lanier! Please send me your addresses so I can send your goodies our when I get back from my trip!

Once again, thanks to everyone for making this worth doing! I hope I can keep it going for as long as possible!  Thanks also to all of the cigar companies and retail partners I’ve had over the years who have made it easier for me to do this.

Thanks!

CigarCraig.com Tenth Anniversary Contest

Since last week marked the tenth anniversary of the launch of CigarCraig.com, I figured it would be appropriate to mark the occasion by giving away some cigars from some of the supporters who have helped me along in the journey over the last few years. But before we get to that, here’s a little bit of the CigarCraig.com backstory for those who don’t know it.  In 1996 I developed a passion for premium cigars and ran across a usenet group that talked about such things, alt.smokers.cigars. By 2006 I had grown weary of participating in that group, and the WWW had grown to more advanced avenues of discourse such as websites and forums and such. I never really got into forums, but in 2009, sensing my need to have an outlet to drone on about cigars, my wife set me up with the CigarCraig.com domain for my 46th birthday, and the rest is history. Now, ten years later, I still drown on about cigars, and, oddly, people read my droning. I’ve attended many IPCPR shows, a bunch of large and small events, and made a great many wonderful friends who I wouldn’t have met otherwise. My thanks goes to you, my readers, those who chose to waste your valuable time reading my nonsense!

So, I’ll have another giveaway! I’ve assembled an assortment of cigars from my humidor representing some of my cigar advertisers. I might decide on two winners, in which case I’ll split up the cigars equitably and both winners will get an equally cool assortment!

Pictured is an idea of the cigars that will be included, more might be added! I’ll update on Sunday! So leave a comment on this post to enter! Usual rules apply, legal age, one entry per, yada, yada. I’ll select a winner, or winners, next Wednesday (right before leaving for Miami!)  Thanks to everyone who’s supported CigarCraig.com over the last 10 years!

That’s all for today,

CigarCraig

Welcome Fox Cigars Contest No. 3 Winner and Wrap-up

The last month has been a lot of fun, three great contests sponsored by Fox Cigars!  Brought back some memories of the good old days of CigarCraig contests.  It’s getting harder and harder to give stuff away these days! I’ll keep sharing great cigars with my readers as long as I am able, and I know my partners are always anxious to spread the love as well. Thanks to Rob at Fox for helping out with this series of contests! I know that Chase received his Perdomo prize, and Narciso’s Oliva gift went out in the mail yesterday. Today we’ll be announcing the winner of the last present in the three part Welcome to the CigarCraig Family contest! I smoked an original El Güegüense Robusto last night to celebrate, since I didn’t seem to have any Illusiones on hand, I guess I’ll have to go on Fox Cigars website and order some! The El Güegüense was fantastic! I believe it was from the original release, and it burned well, although it did need a correction here and there, but the flavor was wonderful.

I did make some Area 51 jokes in the original contest post, I don’t recommend attending that event. Also, I don’t think Dion has named any Illusione cigars Area 51 (yet), but he has used MJ12, which refers to a group of scientists who probably worked there. Anyway, through my random selection process, utilizing the random number generator on Random.org, and a spreadsheet randomize range tool, I’ve selected a winner from combined website and Instagram comments. That winner is Nate Martin! Please email me your address, along with proof that you’re of legal age so I can get all these goodies out to you. Thank you again to Fox Cigars! That’s all for today, until the next time,
