ThermoPro TP358 Bluetooth Indoor Hygrometer

Here’s another Hygrometer review.  I’ve been checking out the ThermoPro digital hygrometer/thermometers, and this is the latest one.  The TP358 is a Bluetooth enabled device, which allows you to monitor the readings in an app, which also stores historical data and lets you set alarms. I have to compare it to the last unit I reviewed, the ThermoPro TP393 Hygrometer

. My testing showed that it’s accur

ate, which is the main feature we look for, right?  Here are the details:

It pretty much has the same features as the TP393, in a smaller form-factor.  The size makes it more suited for humidor use, it’s nearly half the size of the TP393. It also has a clock and backlight, neither of which are particularly interesting to me.  The one area where the TP358 misses is that it uses four AAA batteries, where the larger unit is rechargeable. I like the rechargeable feature, it seems to last a long time, I haven’t had to charge it since I got it back in May. That being said, none of the Thermopro devices I have have needed batteries yet, so they seem to last quite a while. Nice devices, overall.

These devices were provided to me for evaluation, the links are Amazon affiliate links, if you buy one through one of the links, I get a few pennies. I’ve pulled down enough through Amazon links over the years to buy a cup of coffee. That’s all for today, until the next time,

PCA 2022: Stolen Throne Cigars

Continuing along with the video interviews I did at the PCA show, here’s a few minutes with Lee Marsh of Stolen Throne Cigars.  This was my first time meeting Lee in person, I’ve talked to him via video chat plenty over the last year, but our paths finally crossed in the phy

m Queen at the show (while recording this video), and it was really good. I don’t gravitate toward Connecticuts, but this one had some oomph and was very tasty.

Stay tuned for more, I didn’t do many interviews, but I tried to get the best!  Until the next time,

PCA 2022: J.C. Newman Cigar Co. with Eric Newman

Can’t say we’ve had the best week here at Casa Vanderslice.  I, naturally, quickly passed the Covid on to my wife, so we are both feeling crappy.  I tried a couple cigars, but I think my sense of smell is all but gone, which effects cigar flavor significantly.  I expect I’m going to take a break for a while longer.  I need to get back to work and get caught up there, as stuff stacked up (literally) last week while i was “on vacation”.  Not the way I wanted to use that Paid Time Off.  Let’s continue with the video interviews I did at the PCA show.  I want to thank Ed O’Neil for helping out with the camera work. He had been at the show with Kevin (CigarProp), and needed something to do on Sunday and generously offered to help me out.  My set-up isn’t as fancy as Kevin’s, but we got the job done. I had a nice talk with Eric Newman of J.C. Newman, makers of some of my favorite cigars.  In the video he talks about the new El Baton cigars, the Diamond Crown Black Diamond, and the Cuesta Rey made in the Tampa Factory.  Of course, their booth featured a cardboard replica of the El Reloj factory in Tampa, which was quite impressive.

Thanks to Eric for taking the time and to Sydney for her hospitality!  I was able to finally meet Adria, who has been my contact there for several years, in her last official event with the company. Maybe we’ll see her around Philly sometime! That’s all for today. until the next time,

PCA 2022: Patina Cigars

There are a few people in the cigar industry who crossover into different areas.  Mo Maali is one of those.  In addition to being the  owner of Patina Cigars, he’s also on a podcast called Sultans of Smoke.  Mo is one of the people who are in my ear on a fairly regular basis, so I may know him better than he knows me. There are a few people like this in the industry, I’m doing my best to interview them all. Mo displays his Patina brand in the Sutliff Tobacco booth, along with several other brands. As Mo explains in the video, the distribution arrangement with Sutliff relieves a lot of pain points for a small brand. Enjoy the video!

Patina cigars are really quite good. I’m looking forward to trying the new one, and I’ve enjoyed the core line quite a bit. I’d have smokied it by now if it wasn’t for this Covid nonsense. I seem to like a lot of cigars made in the NACSA factory.

That’s all for today, until the next time,

News: Drew Estate Introduces Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Robusto

Here’s some news from Drew Estate on the eve of their PA Barnsmoker.  Unfortunately, it’s a Barnsmoker I was supposed to attend, but due to coming back fro

m the PCA show with Covid, I have to pass.  Maybe I’ll get to the Connecticut version, but it’s more fun driving an hour than six! Anyway, check out the new size of H99!

Drew Estate is adding a new vitola to its

Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo portfolio. Announced during its latest Freestyle Live broadcast, Drew Estate introduced the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Robusto (140mm x 54). The cigar will debut at the Pennsylvania Barn Smoker DE25 Exclusive Pre-Party on July 15 and will be available as a regular allocation to qualifying Drew Diplomat Program members beginning in September.

The Liga Privada H99 (“H” stands for  “Hybrid”) showcases a special dark, air-cured hybrid capa that’s derived from the marriage between Stalk-Cut Habano and Corojo seeds. Grown exclusively for Drew Estate by one farmer in the Connecticut River Valley, the H99 capa combines the best elements of the Habano and Corojo seed varieties to produce a tobacco that is elegant and distinct.

The H99 Connecticut Corojo’s intense sweet qualities contrast beautifully with the robust spicin

ess of the Mexican San Andrés Otapan Negro Último Corte capote. The tripa blend of well-aged Nicaraguan, Honduran and Pennsylvania Green River One Sucker tobaccos contribute to a cigar that’s luxurious, complex and deceptively full-bodied with notes of earth, espresso and leather.

“The infamous wrapper leaves of the Connecticut River Valley are clearly the star in every Liga Privada blend,” notes Drew Estate Founder and President, Jonathan Drew. “This is especially true of Liga H99. This sexy beast expresses the intricacies of the terroir from the farm where H99 Connecticut Corojo is grown. The soil speaks to us and we’ve learned how to listen to it, sincerely. Those H99 savory notes dance across the palate and culminate into a master-crescendo of a finish. Believe me when I say that I’m especially proud of Liga H99 Robusto. It’s dope as hell.”

Debuting at the Pennsylvania Barn Smoker DE25 Exclusive Pre-Party, Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Robusto will become regularly allocated to qualifying Drew Diplomat Program participants beginning in September. Available in 24-count boxes, Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Robusto cigars will have an MSRP of $358.80/box or $14.95/cigar.
