“It does not cease to amaze me how one leaf of tobacco can change a blend entirely.  In our case we changed it all.” said de Frias.  Navetta Inverso features a Habano Nicaraguan wrapper, Ecuador binder and Dominican and Nicaragua filler.

“Reality is when you use well fermented and aged tobaccos, the likelihood that the cigar will be great is high” said de Frias.

Fratello Navetta InversoNavetta Inverso will be featured in 3 vitolas:

– Corona Gorda (5 7/8 x 46) 9.50

– Robusto (5 ½ x 54) 11.25

News: FDA Warning Labels Delayed via JC Newman Co.

This just came to my inbox from Drew Newman, General Counsel of J.C. Newman Cigar Co.. This is very positive news in the fight against over-reaching regulation. Thanks to the Newmans and everyone who fights for our rights. I remember when Drew Newman caught all sorts of heat for posting on the alt.smokers.cigars Usenet group when he was 16…

It seems only fitting that the day after our country celebrated America’s independence a federal court has stepped in to help preserve the right of American adults to enjoy a fine, handcrafted cigar.

We are extremely pleased that Judge Mehta has delayed the implementation of the FDA’s new massive cigar warning labels indefinitely until the courts have a chance to decide their constitutionality. Particularly in light of the Supreme Court’s decision last week that struck down similar government-mandated statements as unconstitutional, it is only fair that the FDA’s new warning label requirements be delayed until these substantial constitutional questions are resolved by the courts.

As Judge Mehta noted in his opinion, it would cost millions of dollars for our family business and other premium cigar companies to redesign the tens of thousands of different decorative cigar boxes sold in America to accommodate the FDA’s massive new warning labels. Forcing premium cigar companies to apply these massive new warning labels now — while the FDA is in the midst of reconsidering the regulation of premium cigars and after the Supreme Court just struck down similar statements as unconstitutional — made no sense and amounted to, as Judge Mehta explained, a “grossly unfair exercise of agency authority.”

It is an incredible relief for Judge Mehta to give us a reprieve from this enormous and costly regulatory burden. America’s historic premium cigar industry has been struggling with how to absorb the high costs of redesigning the innumerable variety of cigar boxes sold in America.

Importantly, however, today’s decision only delays FDA’s regulation of premium cigars. It does not give the American premium cigar industry permanent relief. Therefore, it is imperative that everyone who enjoys a premium cigar submit comments to the FDA urging that the agency exempt premium cigars from regulation. The FDA is accepting public comments until July 25. Comments may be submitted online by visiting http://www.SaveCigarCity.com.

We are extremely grateful to Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio and Representatives Kathy Castor and Bill Posey for their tireless leadership in supporting the premium cigar industry. They have been persistent and outspoken in advocating that the FDA’s new cigar warning label requirements be delayed while the agency is reconsidering the regulation of premium cigars.

We are also very thankful for the plaintiffs in this case, the Cigar Association of America, Cigar Rights of America, the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association, for their steadfast determination in representing our four-generation, 123-year-old family business and America’s historic premium cigar industry.

News: Joya de Nicaragua Extends Modern Lineup with JOYA SILVER

There’s been a lot of pre-IPCPR news coming out that doesn’t rally fit in with what I think the overall theme of my blog is, and I skip over a lot of stories that don’t interest me and, by extension, I don’t feel like my readers would be interested in. I’m sure most readers see

these stories elsewhere so it’s not like your really missing out anyway. I happen to have an affinity for Joya de Nicaragua going back many years, so when they have news to share, chances are I’ll be passing it along:

The Joya line-up represents the adventurous and non-traditional side of the Most Nicaraguan Cigar. With it, JDN has pushed the limits of our factory and showcased the many sides of our people and products, varying from mellow and flavorful blends like Joya

sticated complex like Black.

The national release of Joya Silver is a shining representation in the Joya family of our continuous quest for a truly unforgettable smoke. Silver is a box pressed cigar that delivers a dynamic complexity of fresh spice, chocolate and cherry notes. Its oscuro upper-priming wrapper showcases the perfect complement between the richness of the Nicaraguan fillers and the refined sweetness of the Ecuador grown wrapper and Mexican binder. The result is a medium to full body smoke that achieves an indulging matching of flavors.

“With each Joya, we’ve aimed to cater to modern aficionados by accompanying them through their smoking journey, from beginners to connoisseurs; the line-up represents an evolution of flavor and complexity, each blend being a distinct and peculiar perspective of Nicaraguan tobacco interfused with leaves from other origins. Another feature of our Joya line is that it comes at incredible retail price. With Joya Silver we’re expanding this experience with a medium to full blend,” said Juan Martínez, Joya de Nicaragua Executive President. He continued,

News: Mombacho Cigars Announces Shipment of Cosecha 2013

There’s a secondary piece of good news here, and that’s that product is getting out of Nicaragua.  I smoked the Cosecha 2012 last year in the desert of Las Vegas at Mombacho’s media party and it was really good, although the environment was less than ideal. I have a lot of good memories from that event, meeting the Mombacho team, seeing old media friends and spending some time with the late Gary Laden among them.  I still can’t remember if I like the Mombacho Liga Maestro or Tierra Volcan, one I didn’t care for and one I loved.  Anyway, take a read about the new Cosecha 2013:

MOMBACHO CIGARS ANNOUNCES WORLDWIDE SHIPMENT OF COSECHA 2013

After a seven-week delay, Cosecha 2013, a yearly limited edition release from Mombacho Cigars, has shipped to the United States, Canada and Europe.

Mombacho Cigars S.A. announced today that the highly anticipated Cosecha 2013 has shipped to the United States.  Cosecha 2013 is a vintage Nicaraguan puro and will be available at select cigar retailers in the near future.  The shipment of this special cigar was delayed nearly two months due to the turmoil currently engulfing the country of Nicaragua. The cigars will be distributed to retailers around the world once they reach the US.

“Cosecha is a project that has been in my heart since the day I started working with Mombacho,” said Claudio Sgroi, President and Master Blender of Mombacho Cigars. “True vintage is hard to find in the cigar industry and we have created a cigar that showcases the best of Nicaraguan tobaccos with Cosecha.  Cosecha 2012 was great and Cosecha 2013 may be even better.”

Cosecha 2013

The Spanish word “Cosecha” translates to “harvest” in English and is the perfect name to convey the genuine vintage nature of the Cosecha line. The Cosecha 2013 is the second release of this limited vintage line and features Nicaraguan tobaccos harvested in 2013. The cigars have been in the aging room at Casa Favilli, Mombacho’s factory in Granada, since 2014. Currently, Cosecha 2014 and 2015 have already been rolled and are resting in the aging room at Casa Favilli until ready for distribution.

Cosecha 2013 is a 6 x 52 toro with a pigtail cap and is available in 10-count boxes with an MSRP of $21.95 per cigar.  A total of 800 boxes were produced.  The entire production of Cosecha 2013 sold out due to the quick growth in demand from cigars smokers around the world.

Mombacho Cosecha 2013

“The Cosecha line has become our most highly anticipated and sought after cigar,” said Robert Rasmussen, Brand Manager of Mombacho Cigars. “Cosecha 2012 was a huge hit for us and I’m expecting Cosecha 2013 to be even bigger.”

The current unrest in Nicaragua has caused many delays in the cigar industry and the release of Cosecha 2013 was no exception.  “The situation in Nicaragua has put many of us behind. Things are getting better and we are working hard to keep our team safe and get back to a normal schedule,” said Sgroi.
