In Memory of Our Dog Pooch

This is a hard post to write. This morning, my cigar walk companion was struck and killed by a car in front of our house. Puccio was a four year old Pitbull/Lab mix with a lot of love and spirit.  We got her from the shelter as a gift to my youngest son, Christian, for graduating high school. After we got her housebroken and some training, we found out that she had seizures, and had to give her medication twice a day to control them. She loved everyone, especially our little granddaughters (although she wasn’t fond of our female cats)..  I’m going to miss her terribly, but knowing that my son, who loved the dog, had to watch her get hit, and go through the pain of such a loss, hurts me the most. Everyone loved Pooch, and she loved everyone back. I will certainly miss her companionship on my evening walks. She was stubborn and didn’t always want to walk the route I wanted to walk, which was good sometimes as it broke up the routine. We gave her two years of love and caring, perhaps more than she would have had. Rest easy, poor Pooch, I wish you would have spent longer with us. I’m going to take a walk tonight along with a great cigar that won’t be for discussion in Wednesday’s post, Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, just in memory of a friend.  We will all miss you terribly, there’s a hole in my heart where you you used to be.

Thanks for indulging me this post. I needed to get it out. She didn’t realize it, but she was a part of my cigar smoking over the last couple years. It’s going to take some getting use to not having her around.  She was a special dog.

Until the next time,

CigarCraig

I’m sorry for your loss, my dog too is my smoking buddy. We will dedicate our burn in puccios memory tonight. Also my heart pains for your son. May your happy memories of her carry you both during this sad time.
    Sincerely, Patrick

    Craig,
I am so sorry for your loss, I know how much she meant to you and your family. They say that all dogs go to heaven and I believe that to be true. I believe they will be waiting for us with a wagging tail when we get there. I am sorry that I have been MIA but this college thing has got me running circles around myself and not much time for anything else. Still reading your reviews but more in a hurry these days. Once again I am sorry for your loss. Take it easy my friend.
    George.

This hurts us all. I know how special Pooch was to our family. Chris is an awesome, loving young man……he’s my fun cousin.
Such a tragedy for him to witness. Love and prayers to you Craig, I know your heart hurts.

    Dear Vanderslice Family,

I know there is nothing that I can say that will ease your suffering in this time of pain and loss. Craig knows how important my Little Dog is to me from my Facebook posts, so know that I fully understand the love of/for a dog. They are not pets; they are family. And, to lose one is horrible. I’m sorry for what you are all going through. You are in my thoughts as I smoke tonight with my Little Dog of the Leaf. Cheers, Pooch.

Take heart in knowing that pooch got a lot of love in a short period of time. They steal our hearts and it hurts when they leave. Take care Craig and family.

My deepest condolences to your family, Craig. The loss of a dog is truly the loss of a beloved member of the family. I hope that remembering the good times together will help to ease the pain.

    Craig,

Really sorry to hear about Pooch. I always looked forward to seeing you post about walking her, because I can’t have a dog in my apartment building even though I really want one. I kinda walked my dog vicariously thru you and Pooch. Asylum Vintage in her honor tonight. All my best to you and Jenn and Christian…

Remember my friend: all dogs go to heaven. I’ve lost dogs my entire life. Every time, I swear that I will not do it again, but I never follow through. I always get another dog, and, pretty soon, he’s your best buddy and becomes the best dog you ever had. At that point, there are nothing but GOOD memories left behind.

  13. Craig,

I am saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Pooch. It’s especially difficult considering the circumstances. Please accept my condolences.

So sorry for your loss Craig. My condolences. A good dog is a lot like a good cigar….reliable, therapeutic and always able to put a smile on your face when life has just shit in your cornflakes.

I will smoke a tasty cigar tonight in honor of Puccio
